Keen Bean

Terms of use

Plain language, one page. Using Keen Bean means you're happy with all of this.

Who you're buying from

Keen Bean is made by Michael Jones (ABN 85 663 729 953), trading as Savvy Monkey, a sole trader in New South Wales, Australia. Purchases are sold and fulfilled by Paddle.com Market Ltd as merchant of record, so Paddle is the seller on your receipt and the party handling payment and tax. Any question at all reaches me directly at [email protected].

What you're buying

A monthly subscription to use Keen Bean on your own Mac, in one of three sizes — Seed, Sprout or Beanstalk. It renews each month on your billing date until you cancel, and updates are included for as long as it runs.

Each size carries a monthly allowance of AI usage — transcription and models — which the app runs on capped keys it provisions for you. When the allowance is spent, transcription continues and drafting pauses until you top up or the month resets. Allowances do not carry over.

Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with a card on file; the first charge falls at the end of the trial unless you cancel first. The trial carries its own, smaller allowance.

Cancel whenever you like. Billing stops at the end of the period you've paid for; the provisioned keys are then revoked and the app stops starting new meetings. Everything it has already made stays in your own files.

The subscription is for you. Please don't hand your credentials around — it's the only thing standing between a small independent product and not being one.

It's provided as-is

Keen Bean is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. It may have bugs, it may mishear people, and its AI-generated summaries, cards and drafts can be wrong. They are drafts, not finished work — check anything important before you act on it or send it to a client.

To the maximum extent the law allows, Savvy Monkey is not liable for losses arising from your use of Keen Bean. Nothing here limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other consumer protection law that applies to you; those rights cannot be excluded and they come first.

Keys and fair use

While you're subscribed the app runs on keys we provision and cap for you, and the provider bills come to us. Those keys are issued for your use of Keen Bean and nothing else: extracting them, using them outside the app, or reselling the capacity ends the subscription. The providers' own terms still apply to what you send through them.

If you run Keen Bean on API keys you supply instead, the accounts are yours, the bills are yours, and your usage is between you and those providers.

Recording is your responsibility

Keen Bean transcribes conversations. Laws about recording differ by country and, in Australia, by state. It's your responsibility to know your local rules and to tell the people in your meetings that notes are being transcribed. The app reminds you before each meeting; the obligation is yours.

What the app sends, and what it doesn't

Your meetings, notes and settings live in files on your computer. Audio goes only to the transcription provider; transcript text goes only to the model provider. Neither passes through any server of ours — we run no proxy.

Two things reach us, and only these two: your licence key, sent when the app checks for or downloads an update, and what the provisioned keys spend, which we can see because those keys sit on our provider accounts and which is how your allowance is metered. That is a count of minutes and tokens, not content. There is no analytics and no tracking of what you do in the app. Nothing about your meetings is ever sent to us, so we could not read them if we wanted to. The privacy page has the full detail.

The software is ours, your work is yours

Keen Bean and its code are © Savvy Monkey, all rights reserved. Everything Keen Bean produces from your meetings — transcripts, notes, drafts, diagrams, exports — belongs to you. We claim nothing in it and have no copy of it.

Buying and refunds

Subscriptions are sold and fulfilled by Paddle.com Market Ltd as merchant of record. Cancel whenever you like — see the refunds page.

Changes

These terms may change. Changes take effect from your next monthly renewal, and continuing the subscription past that date means accepting whatever is current. If a change doesn't suit you, cancel — everything the app has made stays in your files.

Where this is governed
